Well hello there! It is good for you to be here today. Over the course of last week, I know that I have had the wonderful opportunity to make some new blogging friends and connections, so if this is your first time reading This Darling Adventure, welcome! Whether today is your day to get things done or whether you are still in your PJs sipping some tea in your living room, I hope that it is going fantastic for you so far!

Like every other Saturday Crafternoon, today we get to be creative. So whether you consider yourself a Picasso or not, get out them art supplies and dust of those imaginations, and let’s create something beautiful together! Today we will be having some fun with watercolors.

Now before you think this project is not for you, listen up. I don’t know about you, but when I scroll through Pinterest looking up ideas for watercoloring, I instantly think to myself No way, José. Watercoloring is a ton of fun, but it is not the easiest thing in the world when you are actually trying to make it look like something… At least that’s what I used to think before I braved this project. So, if you are thinking to yourself that there is no way you could paint something beautiful (let alone with watercolors), no worries. I encourage you, though, to try it out anyway. If you are still hesitating, simply start with something small and find your technique. Then still try it out! Remember, we are all artists here, not art critics…. Make it your own and have some fun!

What You Will Need:

• Watercolors, water and paintbrushes
• Canvas
• Pencil
• An idea of the picture you would like to paint (it is helpful if you have an actual or digital picture)

The Process:

1. Draw out the image you would like to paint onto the canvas using VERY LIGHT pencil markings. (For a tutorial on how to enlarge a picture to the size of your canvas and how to draw it out proportionally, just watch this YouTube video.)
2. Using your watercolors, simply paint away! Don’t be afraid of making “mistakes.” The fun part about watercolors is that is supposed to be imperfect! But if you are still feeling hesitant and would like a tutorial on the basics of painting with watercolors, just check out this Youtube video.
3. Allow paint to dry completely.
4. Erase visible pencil markings. (If any pencil markings are covered by paint, be advised that if you erase them, you will also fade the color of the paint and rub it around a bit…. So, use caution when erasing!)
5. Congrats! You did it! Now you can hang up your painting and enjoy the beauty that you just created!
