Something Meaningful

Meaningful Monday: Ride the Wind

Happy Monday, friends! It is good for you to be here today! It is the beginning of a brand new week and I hope that your’s is off to a great start! Andy and I are wrapping up our last week in our current apartment and are looking ahead to a new living space and along with that a new chapter (although we haven’t started packing yet…).

Over the weekend, we had the beautiful opportunity to watch a movie I hadn’t seen in quite a while. Instantly, it brought me back to my childhood years and the magical world of Mary Poppins. Perhaps you have never seen Mary Poppins and there is no shame in that. But for me, it was one of my absolute favorite movies and it begins with a changing of the wind bringing the nanny of all nannies (Mary Poppins) into some children’s lives. Then, when all is said and done (spoiler alert), the wind whisks her away.

I don’t know about you but every once and a while there is this feeling that begins to bubble in the depths of my heart – an anticipation, an excitement, an eagerness for something new. It is like the wind changes its course and so captivates the inner-workings of my heart. This prompts me to move with it in a new direction. At times it is a gentle prompting, while at other times it is an unruly push, but over the years I have learned to run with it and see what adventures lay ahead when I do.

Friends, maybe you have no idea what I am talking about. But I hope perhaps you do and you too seize the opportunity to see what adventures in life await. More often than not, the road is paved with uncertainty and takes some unexpected twists and turns, but believe me when I say I would much rather live a life of wonder and whimsy then one without such beauty bubbling over.

At times Andy and I like to daydream and think about our future. We pose propositions to one another about where we will be in one year, five years, and ten years. At the end of the day, though, we really have no idea. Sure, we have glimpses of things we would like to do along with goals, dreams and aspirations for changing the world someday. But we are also familiar with the reality that we will be swept in another direction and wind up on an unexpected yet absolutely spectacular journey. It is a path that often takes us to somewhere we never dreamed, yet one that we also come to love more than anything we could have imagined. Over the years I have learned to be okay with it – to enjoy and embrace these tingles of excitement for the beginning of something new. Seasons come and seasons go, but the wonder of it all never ceases to amaze me.

So today, wherever you are and whatever season is ahead, when the wind changes and uncertainty looks like it is in the forecast, my hope is that we learn to run with it. May we cherish the time that we have in the present, yet also grow to embrace and enjoy those bubbles of anticipation, excitement and eagerness and like Mary Poppins ride the wind (wherever it may take us).

Where is the “wind” blowing you? Please feel at home to comment below! And have an entirely beautiful evening! 🙂
